Please join us for a presentation discussing the theory and practice of patenting software and life sciences inventions in the United States and Europe. Krista Wittman of Cascadia Intellectual Property, Seattle, will discuss the evolution of software patent prosecution practice in the United States following the 2014 decision of Alice Corp. and also cover patentability of inventions in several areas of life sciences. Dr. Moritz Höffe from the Munich Office of Grünecker Patent und Rechtsanwälte PartG mbB (“Grünecker”) will discuss the legal framework governing patentability of software inventions in Europe, the European Patent Office software invention examination practice, and recent developments in the European software patent practice. Dr. Markus Grammel, also of Grünecker’s Munich office, will discuss the European patent practice in the context of biotechnology, pharmacological, and diagnostic method inventions.
