Taxation Section

The Taxation Section provides current information on federal and state tax issues that directly affect practitioners in Washington. It gives new attorneys with an interest in tax law an opportunity to meet and discuss mutual areas of concern with established practitioners. The Section assists in proposing and commenting on legislation and administrative rules affecting federal and state tax practice.

Through its website, list serve, and events throughout the year, the Taxation Section provides practical, up-to-date information regarding the Section's committees, activities, and other tax resources.

In accordance with the Section's bylaws, and with the exception of law students, an individual must be an active member of the Bar to join the Taxation Section.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be a current section member and should be eligible to vote in accordance with the section’s bylaws.

Application Process: Go to the myWSBA portal to complete the online application for open executive committee positions. The Section has requested that each applicant submit a statement of interest with your application. This document can be uploaded with your online application (PDF format only). Please be advised that application materials may be posted on this website for public viewing.

Note: If you are applying for more than one position on this or multiple sections’ committees, you must complete and submit all applications at the same time, as you will not be allowed back into the portal at a later time. Please make sure you are completing the applications within the application window for all of the relevant sections.

Nomination Process: There will be a nominating committee comprised of the Immediate Past Chair, current Chair, and Chair-elect. The nominating committee will compile a list of nominees. Persons nominated to the office of Treasurer must have served as a committee chair for no less than two and one-half (2 ½) years. The executive committee will approve a list of nominees for each open position. The executive committee will also have an alternative process to allow for nominations to occur outside of the nominating committee process.

Alternate Nomination Process: A section member may nominate another member or self-nominate during a regularly held meeting or by emailing Kristi Richards at Krichards@radiuslawseattle.com. Any self-nominating member may submit materials through the online application process or by providing materials to the nominating committee.  If another member is nominated, the Nominating Committee will reach out to the nominee and inform the individual of the consideration, and the individual may submit materials to the nominating committee or through the application process if the individual expresses interest in the role on the committee. All eligible applicants/nominees will be placed on the ballot as candidates, even if not recommended by the nominating committee.

Elections Process: All voting members of the section will receive an electronic ballot sent to their email in June 2023. Visit this webpage in early June for election updates and voting instructions.
