The COVID-19 pandemic continues to adversely affect the world’s population, particularly in less developed countries where access to COVID-19 vaccines remains a challenge. In response, last fall, India and South Africa proposed a wide-ranging waiver of intellectual property (IP) protections relating to COVID-19 innovations under the multilateral Agreement for Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). The proposed waiver ignited a debate over international IP rights. Please join us for a presentation by Patrick J.S. Inouye of Cascadia Intellectual Property covering the scope of TRIPS, whom such waivers would affect, and whether such waivers would address the ongoing global pandemic.
