The two presenters of the CLE will provide a practice-driven introduction into the system of the European Unitary Patent and Unified Patent Court(s) (UPC). They will identify respective changes in the patenting landscape both nationally and EU-wide, and will give an overview over the litigation proceedings and the relevant “fresh from the press” case-law. Issues with respect to preliminary measures, gathering of evidence, timing and speed of the proceedings, costs, languages, validity challenges and enforcement will be discussed, as well as prospective uses of the system for patents in life sciences and pharma, IT, SEPs, and for NPEs. The goal is to enable you to decide if and when the system is a useful strategic option for you and your client.
