Privacy regulation has become a norm for modern businesses and workplaces. There was much fanfare following the implementation of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (or GDPR), but compliance is no longer just for companies doing business in Europe. Privacy legislation has continued to expand, including at the state level in the United States with California’s Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). Indeed, new and existing regulations are impacting business and the workplace in new ways, and taking aim at emerging technologies in ways we are yet to fully understand. This CLE will explain some of the highlights from the existing regulatory structure, provide practical advice on how businesses should think about compliance, and delve into how both existing and emerging regulations are taking aim at AI.
