While the international community begins to focus more on the role of corporations and “social responsibility,” how can lawyers work with corporations to prevent complicity and commission of international crimes? This CLE presentation will discuss the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UN GPBHR) and how this framework may help, with the assistance of diligent lawyers, prevent corporations from being complicit in mass atrocities and international crimes. This discussion will involve RPCs 1.1 (competence), RPC 3.4 (fairness to opposing party), and RPC 4.3 (dealing with person not represented).
