Time:
Location:
Seattle Airport Marriott, 3201 S 176th St
Seatac, WA
This year the Senior Lawyers Section CLE takes you on an excursion as we look at a range of challenges affecting attorneys and the legal profession at home and abroad – and in the spaces between.
On the home front, Washington State Lt. Governor Cyrus Habib gets us underway by outlining his office’s work in economic development, trade, and higher education, and his unique role as a member of the legislative and executive branches of government. Other “at home” topics include selling your law practice with or without an intermediary (Justin Farmer of Private Practice Transitions and Susan Beecher, Kent attorney), planning for the $2 to 20 million estate (Douglas Lawrence, Stokes Lawrence PS, Seattle), real estate issues related to homelessness and affordable housing (Scott Osborne, Foster Pepper PLLC, Seattle), and recent trends among Washington attorneys in ethics matters (Jeanne Marie Clavere, WSBA Professional Responsibility Counsel).
Presenters also address legal issues that involve domestic as well as international considerations: the intersection of agriculture and employment law (Sarah Wixson, Stokes Lawrence PS, Yakima), and Domingo v. Marcos, the only time a foreign head of state has been held legally accountable in the U.S. for the murders of U.S. citizens on U.S soil (Elizabeth Schott, Seattle attorney).
Topics from abroad address the trial process in former British colonies in Africa, common advocacy principles and how to provide instruction in advocacy. (Steve Fury, Justice Advocacy Africa and Fury Duarte, Seattle).
