Prior to the enactment of RCW 7.105, there were separate laws governing Washington's six civil protection orders -- Domestic Violence, Vulnerable Adult, Anti-harassment, Sexual Assault, Stalking and Extreme Risk. RCW 7.105 codifies these orders and their proceedings in a single chapter, reconciling inconsistencies that created complexity, produced barriers to access, and limited available relief by the courts. This session will provide a basic overview of the new civil protection order statute addressing legislative intent, definitions, jurisdiction/venue, proceedings, and remedies.
