Environmental and Land Use Law Section

industry and green fieldsThe Environmental and Land Use Law Section helps members keep up with this rapidly developing area of law. The Section provides various forums through which members can meet, exchange ideas with, and learn from others who practice in the field. The Section also sponsors law student internships and pursues a number of other community-service projects.

The WSBA Environmental and Land Use Law Section (ELUL) will hold its Annual Meeting at the 2015 Environmental and Land Use Law Section Midyear Meeting and Conference, which will be held May 7-9, 2015, at Alderbrook Resort on Hood Canal.

Scholarship Information
A limited number of scholarships are available to cover a portion of the cost of attending the Mid-Year Conference. Scholarships will be awarded to lawyers who can otherwise not attend because of cost, and who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  1. New Attorney; No Firm Reimbursement. An attorney who has been a member of the Bar of any state for 5 years or less, is a member of the Section, and where it is the policy of that attorney’s employer not to reimburse the attorney for the cost of attending CLEs; provided however, that if the employer has a policy of paying a percentage of the registration fee, the attorney may be eligible for a partial scholarship for the balance of the Mid-Year tuition; or
  2. Public Sector, Non-Profit or Tribal Lawyer. An attorney who is a member of the Section and employed by a governmental unit, non-profit organization or Indian Tribe
  3. Law Students. A law student who is a member of the Section; or
  4. Other. The Executive Board may also consider an attorney who is a member of the Bar of any state and is a member of the Section and who is experiencing financial hardship because of unemployment or other circumstances.

Scholarship applications should be submitted by email. Please include a brief description of your experience and/or interest in land use and environmental law and your eligibility for a scholarship. Applicants must disclose whether they have previously received a scholarship to attend the ELUL Midyear Conference. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously received a scholarship. 

Submit scholarship applications to ELUL Executive Board Member Darren Carnell at darren.carnell@kingcounty.gov. In order to be considered, scholarship applications must be received by April 10, 2015.
