Governor-appointed Board Member – Pollution Control Hearings Board
There is currently a position opening on the Pollution Control Hearings Board. The Board is a three-member quasi-judicial Board with a broad range of jurisdiction set out in Ch. 43.21B RCW. By statute, each Board member must have experience in "pertinent matters pertaining to the environment." At least one member of the Board must be a lawyer admitted to practice in Washington State, and engaged in the legal profession at the time of appointment. RCW 43.21B.020. Although only one member must be a lawyer, as a practical matter it is highly desirable that all Board members be lawyers, as the nature of the work is judicial, and requires skills that would be gained through a legal education. Board members are appointed by the Governor for six year terms, and are subject to Senate confirmation. No more than two of the members at the time of appointment or during their term shall be members of the same political party. RCW 43.21B.020
Individuals appointed to the Pollution Control Hearings Board are also members of the six-member Shorelines Hearings Board. RCW 90.58.170.
Term: Unexpired term, Feb. 15, 2015 – June 30, 2016
Salary: $104,000, plus benefits
