Editor’s Note: Since becoming editor, I have hoped to incorporate more human-interest pieces in the Bar News. I suspected there were plenty of good stories among our 30,000 members. I am pleased to report that many of you responded. Following are three excellent examples of the type of stories I have been talking about. In the first piece, a Seattle lawyer reflects on how serving as a judge advocate with the United States Marine Corps taught him as much about human nature as how to win cases in court. The second is about dealing with a serious illness and how it affects one’s view of work. The third piece is about how one attorney drew on his experiences as a lawyer to launch a writing career. — M.H.
