Adjunct Investigative Counsel (AIC) Panel
The Adjunct Investigative Counsel (AIC) Panel investigates grievances against attorneys.
The Adjunct Investigative Counsel Panel provides an opportunity for Washington lawyers to volunteer to assist the Office of Discipline Counsel (ODC) in a number of areas, including:
Investigating a grievance against a lawyer;
Assisting staff counsel with a portion of an investigation by reviewing court files, interviewing witnesses, analyzing evidence, or the like;
Serving as Special Disciplinary Counsel/Adjunct Trial Counsel and representing the Association in the prosecution of a discipline case;
Providing staff counsel with an outside opinion on an area of law relevant to a disciplinary hearing or investigation;
Providing staff counsel with tactical advice or counsel on an aspect of a pending discipline proceeding;
Serving as a probation monitor following imposition of a disciplinary sanction;
Serving as a file custodian when a lawyer dies, disappears, or otherwise becomes incapable of protecting clients’ interests;
Serving as appointed counsel in a disability proceeding under Title 8 of the Rules for Enforcement of Lawyer Conduct;
Serving as a limited guardian or guardian ad litem under Rule for Enforcement of Lawyer Conduct 8.9.
Members must have been an active member of WSBA for at least 7 years with no record of disciplinary misconduct. Appointment is for a 5-year term.
