Member and Community Relations Department

The Member and Community Relations Department has four divisions:

  • Bar Leaders
  • Communications
  • Justice Programs
  • WSBA Service Center

Bar Leaders

The Bar Leaders Division serves as the WSBA's liaison to its 24 sections; 29 committees, boards, and panels; the Washington Young Lawyers Division; and local, specialty, and minority bars. The division works closely with WSBA volunteers to build and strengthen relationships with members and affiliate groups. E-mail barleaders@wsba.org.

Communications

The Communications Division publishes Bar News, Resources, consumer-information pamphlets, and special publications like the "lawyer myths" brochure and the WSBA Membership Guide. The division is responsible for all media relations and public relations (responsibilities include handling inquiries from reporters, issuing news releases, working with KING-TV on the "Legally Speaking" program, running the Speakers Bureau). E-mail comm@wsba.org.

Justice Programs

The Justice Programs Division coordinates with the WSBA and the greater Access to Justice Community in efforts to improve access to the justice system for low- and moderate-income people. Key functions include staffing and supporting the following boards and initiatives: the Supreme Court-established Access to Justice Board and most of its 12 working committees, including the Council on Public Legal Education; the WSBA Pro Bono and Legal Aid Committee in its implementation of the BOG's Volunteer Attorney Legal Services Action Plan (VALS Plan); the Greater Access and Assistance Program (GAAP), a joint project between the ATJ Board and the Young Lawyers Division; the Emeritus Program; and the annual Access to Justice Conference. WSBA Service Center

The WSBA Service Center was created to provide the best-possible service for WSBA members and members of the public. Service Center representatives are knowledgeable about all aspects of the WSBA, and are generally able to immediately assist callers. The Service Center handles between approximately 6,500 and 9,500 phone calls each month. Call the Service Center at 800-945-WSBA or 206-443-WSBA, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. E-mail questions@wsba.org.
